LCTA eRoar, May 29, 2019

Greetings fellow Lions!  This is my first welcome letter as the incoming PTA President and I am very excited about the 2019-2020 school year!  My family came to LCTA last year when our son, Leo, started Kindergarten.  As time went by, I realized how just being at the school made me feel so happy and fulfilled.  I knew LCTA was something really special....thanks to Dr. Zissios, all of the staff, and the supportive families and community.  My goal is to support LCTA in continuing to make it an amazing place for our children.  Please join me!  Don't hesitate to reach out to me at any time.

-Katie Palavecino, PTA President 2019-2020

Yearbook

The yearbook is complete and it truly is a work of Art this year; from the awe inspiring cover designed by our own resident artist Elena Aida, to the “walk on the wild side” theme. Our yearbook crew (Melissa Carstens, Becky Vobril and Kristen Quinlan-Boyce) did an outstanding job this year and we are so grateful for all the time and energy they committed to this project.

Legacy T-Shirts are here!

T-shirts designed by our fifth grade students are available for sale. Look for the PTA table selling shirts outside school on Tuesday mornings 7:30am (drop off) and Thursday afternoons at 2:30pm (pick-up). The cost is $15 a shirt (cash, charge or check). Last year’s inventory is also for sale at $5 a shirt.

Peer Buddy Program

We are looking for a parent volunteer to serve as a parent co-liaison for the Peer Buddy Program for 2019-20 school year. This is a special program in our school matching children in need of a buddy with a child in the upper grades. It is a small volunteer time commitment but with a big impact! Most of the volunteer time is at the beginning of the school year (as we get the program going for the year), and over email (as activities happen during the school day).  Help is needed with coordinating, scheduling and organizing activities which happen twice a month during the school year (but parent involvement is not required on site during the activities). This volunteer commitment would work directly with our school counselor, Sarah Bustard. Contact this year's Peer Buddy liaison Allison Shelton (allison.shelton@gmail.com or 703-867-7620 mobile) for more information if you are interested.  Thank you!

Roaring in the community, June 1, 10am FDR Ceremonial Loop for the annual One Small Step walk for Prader-Willi Research!

Please join "the Mighty Declan" and his family on Saturday, June 1st at 10 am at the FDR Ceremonial Loop for the annual One Small Step walk for Prader-Willi Research!  LCTA first grader Declan Shelton has the genetic condition Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), and every year since his birth his family has helped organize and support the DC edition of the One Small Step effort, PWS raises critical funds needed for life-changing research so that one day, Declan and all those with PWS may lead FULL and independent lives.  Please read more about Declan's story at act.fpwr.org/goto/mightydeclan.   Walk day details are posted at act.fpwr.org/washingtondc2019.   Please reach out to Declan's mom, Allison Shelton, with any questions (703-867-7620, allison.shelton@gmail.com).  You do not need to donate to join the walk -- you can just show up!  Declan and his family would be absolutely thrilled to have LCTA friends at the walk!
