ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION WEEK
This week is Assistant Principal Appreciation Week!
Our Assistant Principal, Linda Ricks
"In leadership, one person can make all the difference." This anonymous quote is a favorite of Ms. Ricks, and it certainly applies to the leadership she has provided our school. This may only be Ms. Ricks' second year with us at LCTA, but it already feels like we cannot imagine our school without her! So strong is the impact she has made in such a short amount of time. It is amazing the difference one can make when fully invested. The timing of Ms. Ricks arrival at our school could not have been more fortuitous, as we could not have asked for a better co-pilot to Dr. Zissios during these challenging times. Indeed Ms. Ricks has worked steadily behind the scenes alongside Dr. Z to keep us on course. "I try to be impactful, supportive and encouraging," Ms. Ricks admits. Well, Ms. Ricks, mission success: you ARE impactful, supportive, and encouraging - and so much more - and we are indeed grateful you are part of the LCTA family.
Before the Pandemic and during these past few weeks, you may have seen Ms. Ricks greeting students at the front doors every morning. This is one of her favorite things about her job - greeting students and anticipating the spontaneity of what each new day will bring. Inspired to go into education by teachers who had a positive impact on her and also by working with children through her church, it's the students who are front and center for why she loves being in education.
Ms. Ricks has been an educator for 27 years; 20 years in Alexandria and 7 in Suffolk, Virginia - teaching a variety of grades including kindergarten, second, third, and fifth. She spent the last 7 years before coming to LCTA as a literacy coach in ACPS. She has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and an endorsement in Administration and Supervision. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Outside of work, Ms. Ricks enjoys spending time with family, sewing, and recently started playing pickle ball! She also likes spending time outdoors taking long walks and enjoying nature. She reads many different genres of literature but is particularly drawn to inspirational and self-help books. Her favorite movie will probably always be (and the kids will love this!) Beauty and the Beast! Speaking of spells cast... Ms. Ricks, you have certainly cast (a very good) spell on us. Every interaction with you leaves us spell-bound under your kindness. In fact, to sum it all up, no one can say it better than Ms. Ricks herself: "I have a servants heart, whether it's providing service in the community, at church, feeding the homeless or volunteering at a food bank. I like helping people."
Thank you, Ms. Ricks, for all that you do and all that you are!
If you have not already had a chance to do so, please send Ms. Ricks a note of appreciation! linda.ricks@acps.k12.va.us
