November is National Native American Heritage Month! American Indians and Alaskan Natives served valiantly in our Armed Forces in overwhelming numbers after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Among a total Native American population of 350,000, approximately 44,000 served on active duty, including more than 6,000 Alaskan Natives in the Alaska Territorial Guard. Their valiant service garnered many distinguished medals and honors, including the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Air Medal, and Distinguished Service Cross. Three service members earned the Congressional Medal of Honor-the highest military award granted in the country. You can learn more about Alexandria's Native American history here and find books and other resources here. Monthly Uniform Locker Save The Date for the next Uniform Locker on Tuesday, November 16th, 8 am - 9 am, and 2:45 pm - 3:30 pm The Uniform Locker has gently used uniforms for no charge (this is not an exchange: a donation of clothing is not required to make a selection). The Uniform Locker is located to the left of the main entrance to the school; its entry door faces the parking lot. If you have clothing to donate, donations are welcome at any time and can be dropped off at the front office. They can also be dropped off during the time uniform lockers are held. We kindly ask that you please launder the items you bring in to donate before dropping them off. Thank you very much! Donors Choose Exciting News from Donors Choose and Sonic!
