The LCTA PTA stands with our community, and as equally distraught, before the incident with one of our students bringing a loaded handgun to school this past Friday 3/1 via a student backpack. We are a community shaken together by this very serious incident.
We also stand with our National PTA when it comes to Gun Safety and Violence and we are unequivocal in our belief that any initiative aimed at enhancing the safety of our youth and communities must encompass comprehensive measures, including those addressing gun safety and violence prevention. As part of our efforts, the PTA has arranged a presentation by Be SMART for our upcoming General Membership Meeting on March 12th at 7 pm on Zoom focusing on secure gun storage and responsible ownership.
Students at LCTA are encouraged to seek support from our school counselor, administrators, or any trusted adult whenever they require assistance. Additionally, students can access CrisisText and Crisis Link services at any time, 24/7, using the following contact information:

We are incredibly grateful to our phenomenal teachers and staff for keeping all our community safe on 3/1 and to the Alexandria Police Department for their prompt and swift response. As the APD continues their active investigation, we encourage you to reach out to Tracy Walker, APD Communications Manager, at tracy.walker@alexandriava.gov, for more information.
And while the amazing team at our school continues to work hard to keep us all safe, we also encourage you to reach out to our School Board and Superintendent here to continue to engage them in our collective efforts to keep our school community safe and help our collective voice be heard: https://www.acps.k12.va.us/schoo.../contact-the-school-board. Please also consider submitting a public comment to the upcoming School Board Meeting on 3/7 here to help ensure we continue to see needed next steps for our community's safety: https://acpsweb.wufoo.com/forms/r1a8g5zk01b7fq9/.
The PTA Executive Committee has been engaged in concerted communication with one another and with community outreach since 3/1. The PTA commits to continuing its outreach, and we are grateful to be able to count on your support, as well. Please refer to the "News" tab on our website for latest updates.
